When we think about academic tutoring at Kawa Kids, we picture faces, not test scores-the boy who used to hide at the back of the classroom because he couldn't read, the teenage girl who almost dropped out when math became a blur of numbers. Our Academic Tutoring program grew out of moments like these.

Many of the children we serve have walked through abandonment, instability, or trauma. By the time they sit at a school desk, they are already carrying more than any child should. Traditional classrooms rarely slow down for those stories. So we create safe, small-group and one-on-one spaces where they can breathe, ask questions without shame, and rebuild the foundations of learning.

Tutors focus on core subjects-literacy, numeracy, and key exam areas-using clear, patient explanations and lots of practice. But we also pay close attention to confidence. We celebrate small wins: a page read aloud without stumbling, a problem solved independently, homework handed in on time for a month straight. Over and over, we have seen that when a child believes "I can learn," everything else begins to open up.

Our tutoring is closely linked to mentoring. We talk about study habits, setting goals, and handling frustration. A session might end with prayer, encouragement, or a quick check-in about what is happening at home. For many students, their tutor becomes one of the few consistent adults cheering them on.
Your support for Academic Tutoring does more than raise grades. It helps vulnerable children reclaim their sense of possibility. Instead of quietly slipping behind until dropping out feels inevitable, they discover that their minds are strong, their questions matter, and their future is not defined by their past. In those moments, a simple desk and notebook become tools of healing and hope.
